Beleutin Fm

Period:
Proterozoic, Cambrian, Ordovician

Age Interval:
Ediacaran – Hirnantian (Edi-Obl), MS

Province:
East Tajik (Central Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

This is the lower formation in the Muzkol Gr

Synonym: Beleutinskaya suite, Белеутинская свита

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

The composition and appearance are rather monotonous, consisting of interbedded garnet-biotite and garnet-two-mica gneisses, various composition crystalline slates (quartz-biotite, garnet-quartz-two-mica, and cordierite-quartz-two-mica) and migmatites. The thickness of the suite is 1500-2000 m. According to B. R. Pashkov (1964b), in the upper parts of the Belayutin Fm, in the Patykutek area, in the basins of the rivers Belayuli and Akbaytal, metabasalts, greenstone porphyrites, albitephires, and quartz keratophyres, plagio-porphyres, rhyolites, and rhyolitic porphyrites have been identified.

Lithology Pattern:
Gneiss

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The schematic strat column indicates the lower contact as Sassyk Fm

Upper contact

The schematic strat column indicates the upper contact as Sarylshilin Fm

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Central Pamir.

Age

Local metatuff Zrn U-Pb ages (~540, ~533, and ~502 Ma) and the youngest detrital Zrn U-Pb age clusters (~590–580 Ma) in paragneiss and schist suggest an Ediacaran to Cambrian protolith. (Rutte et al., 2017). Hence considered Ediacaran – Hirnantian as the age based on the schematic stratigraphic column.
